Morning Matinees

Why attend a Morning Matinee?

Engage your students' imaginations with a trip to the theatre to see classic works tailored to the curriculum of your school. Each performance features an optional 15-to-20-minute post-show discussion. Discussions are led by a Hilberry Company member and may include members of the cast.

Teachers are provided with access to specially created student Play Guides for each of our productions featured in the Morning Matinee series.

Pricing:

Morning Matinees are held at both the Bonstelle and Hilberry Theatres.
Hilberry Morning Matinees: $12 per ticket

2011 – 2012 Morning Matinee Schedule:

At the Hilberry (on Tuesdays):

Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare
November 1, 8 and 15, 2011 at 10 a.m.

Benedick and Beatrice are engaged in a "merry war" of mile-a-miunute talk about their scorn for love, marriage and each other. Claudio and Hero are rendered practically speechless by their transcendent love for one another in their race to the altar. Don John nearly triumphs in ruining the wedding, but not before Beatrice and Benedick finally tell each other how they really feel.

Frank Langella's Cyrano adapted from Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac

February 7, March 6 and 20, 2012 at 10 a.m.

(Previously scheduled January performances have been canceled. 1/10/12)

The charismatic swordsman-poet with the absurd nose hopelessly loves the beautiful Roxane; she, however, loves the handsome but tongue-tied Christian. The chivalrous Cyrano sets up with Christian an innocent deception with inspired words. But years later, when Cyrano is near the end, true love triumphs when long-remembered lyrical phrases reveal the secret and Roxane discovers the soul she has always truly loved.

At the Bonstelle (on Thursday):

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
December 8, 2011 at 10 a.m.

A shipwreck separates twins, but tragedy quickly turns to comedy when they wash up in a land turned upside-down by love.  With raucous antics, ravishing language and rich characters, in one of his greatest comedies, Shakespeare creates a bittersweet tale of laughter and longing, jealousy and triumph, not to mention mistaken identity, cross-dressing, fights, duels, and three marriages!
