  The Facilities

The Department of Theatre maintains three theatres, three rehearsal halls, costume and scenic production centers, design labs, and a marketing and public relations office, as well as an administrative office complex.

The 532-seat Hilberry Theatre, operated by the graduate repertory company, is a ¾ thrust stage with a walk-around ramp that encircles the audience and serves as an extension of the stage. The theatre has new rigging and computercontrolled lighting systems. Through a generous donation from the Newnan family and funds from the University, the lobby recently received a complete renovation.

The Bonstelle Theatre, with a 1,143-seat proscenium auditorium, is used for major productions of the undergraduate theatre program, just celebrated its 100th birthday, and is on the National Register of Historic Theatres. Hilberry design students may have opportunities to work in the Bonstelle Theatre.

The Studio Theatre, located downstairs from the Hilberry, is an intimate, 110-seat open stage that is also utilized for departmental undergraduate productions and student productions.

The Theatre Production Center, located down the street from the Hilberry, houses scenic, costume, and property shops. The department’s facilities in the renovated Old Main building include a computer lab for design students, a lighting lab equipped with a small-scale theatrical lighting system, movement and vocal studios with sprung floors, two rehearsal halls equipped with sound systems and green rooms, as well as classrooms and department and faculty offices.
